MCHS Science Club

Magnet Cove High School Science Club consists of 9th - 12th grade students. For the 2024 - 2025 school year, the MCHS Science Club has grown to an astounding number of 112 members. Every October, the Science Club hosts an annual Science Night for the community. Science Night is where Science Club members teach community members of any age about a scientific topic by doing short, fun, hands-on experiments. The theme for the 2024-2025 Science Night was Under the Sea and for 2023-2024 was Out of this World in Space. The Magnet Cove High School has a planetarium that is utilized for the High School science classes and during Science Night. The Science Club is trying to raise money through fundraisers  and grants each year to update and improve the planetarium software system and seating to be utilized for shows for each grade in the school district and shows periodically for the community in the future. Another project the Science Club has started planning and raising money for is the Outdoor Patio for an alternative learning environment. A fundraiser that Science Club does annually is the Valentine's Day Crush fundraiser. The sponsors also take different opportunities that become available each year to take Junior and Senior Science Club members to visit different college campuses to explore college science degrees and careers or experience hands-on opportunities in a college setting. Some events that we have attended are Genome Hack-A-Thon at OBU, BRCA research with gel electrophoresis at OBU, and the Science and Engineering Open House at SAU. At the end of every school year, Science Club members that have done well academically and had no discipline issues go on a field trip. The field trip for the 2023-2024 school year was to Top Golf in Little Rock, the 2022-2023 was to Wonderworks in Branson, and the 2021-2022 was to the Memphis Zoo.
